As far as Bill’s character... he is the most original artist you’ll ever meet (with nearly no visible tattoos he’s a sleeper sick-fest of bad-ass-ness) and if you’re wondering about his background he’s been a professional artist for longer than most tattoo shops have been open in the SD area (or anywhere for that matter) and was synchronistically drawn to the profession of body art by God himself (or at least bare-minimum by fate---ask him the story of how he got started.) He was a graphic design artist for major corporations for years (check his bio!!!) before he settled on body art “because of the rush of the one-time, no mistake endeavor of tattooing.” He has enough first place trophies in his quaint and unbelievably sophisticated shop to rival your most cocky friend’s little league baseball trophy collection, and his work is evidence of his merit in the field as a true professional.

His equipment is technologically unsurpassed with state-of-the-art tattoo machines which lessen the pain due to less vibration (he also has a gentle-hitting precision technique which anyone who does full-day sittings will appreciate greatly). His customers are made to feel as comfortable as possible with unlimited free water and Juxtapoz mags to view while sitting, and holistically surrounded with plants and cool art to get lost in mentally, and a uniquely designed and decorated cozy shop which all lend to an extraordinary sitting experience which is non-paralleled in Diego, or anywhere in the country (we are all inked here in Diego btw.) Oh, and in case you don’t know he used to work at Chronic Tattoo over in Pacific Beach before he opened EDEN in North Park and he books out 6 months to a year in advance due to an extremely high demand and locally legendary following for his services ( I heard about him and saw his work far before I got work done by him). But don’t take my word for it… get your ass into his shop and check it yourself… or run the risk of getting mediocre work from mediocre talent. It’s your body and remember…you pay for what you get. Discount tattoos are for wanna-be dorks who think ink is "cool". No worries right? It’ll only be on you till you die! For all serious inquiries…this guy is the REAL deal. His customers are loyal and fly in from all over the country to sit in his chair. I know for sure… I’m a customer for life.

My experience at Eden was by far the best tattoo experience I have ever had. Mr. Kieffer is a really nice guy and very easy going and helpful throughout the entire process. We collaberated on a design that I brought him. It became clear during the consultation process that Mr. Kieffer's primary interest was to give me the best tattoo he could. Taking into consideration everything from skin tone to placement, we were able to come up with a design that stayed true to my intent while maximizing Mr. Kieffer's abilities.

I was very nervous about getting the tattoo because it was going to be my largest and because of the placement (ribcage). The atmosphere at Eden is very relaxing and Mr. Kieffer seems intent on making his clients feel comfortable. I was so comfortable in fact, that I was able to sit for much longer than I expected and what we both had anticipated taking at least 4 seperate appointments, only ended up taking about 1 1/2 sessions. The finished product was above and beyond what I had hoped for. Mr. Kieffer's aftercare instructions allowed me to heal nicely with minimal discomfort. If you are looking to get a big or intricate piece, or if you are looking for a different kind of tattoo experience I would recommend Eden Tattoo Gallery without hesitation.

The first tattoo experience I had with Bill was even better than I ever hoped it could be. I was pretty much a “tattoo virgin”, and had major issues with trust, especially when it came to my body, men, tattoos, and strangers. Bill was highly recommend to me by a friend, so I took a chance and made the appointment for a large rib area tattoo. Everything from the awesome one-table studio and the clean and positive vibe it gives off… to how patient, comfortable, and easy going Bill was… the whole experience was freaking awesome. And the tattoo I ended up with?… I get stopped on the street or beach anytime it can be seen. People literally cross the street to see it and are always saying, “What an incredible tattoo! Who did that??!” More important than how perfect the actual tattoo turned out, is that Bill took my ideas that I couldn’t put an image to, and created the image exactly how I wanted it…and it was stress free. I feel like he enjoyed creating the tattoo for me, and really cared about me enjoying the whole process of it, not just the final product. Now, I have a gift he’s given me that I can carry around forever, and share with others…I’ll always be grateful for that. Thanks Bill!

I first found Bill while he was at Chronic Tattoo in PB (Pacific Beach). I had been wandering around to all the tattoo shops I could find looking through portfolios to find just the right style, the second I opened his I just knew. Two years and 53 hours of tattooing later I have the most amazing piece of art on my back and I couldn’t be more proud. Bill Kieffer continually challenges people to look past what tattoos are and to what the fusion of art, as the base of a tattoo could be. His work speaks for itself, not only in its aesthetic value, but also in its ability to be placed amongst the best, most creative artwork currently out there. So far, I have two tattoos done by Bill, one completed in 22 ¼ hours and the other (in progress) has 5 ¼ worth of work done on it. The first one, as a gift to myself for completing my Masters degree marks my meeting a long-term life goal. As I close in on my Doctoral degree, I have set the wheels in motion for my next gift, and I purposefully sought Bill out to add this portion.

You can move into a new house, buy another car, change your clothes as fashions dictates, but you cannot (without considerable effort) simply change your tattoos. Despite the really open (ok probably vague) concept I gave him, Bill didn’t just run with it; in fact, it was quite the contrary. Bill convinced me it was ok for me to be involved in the process of creating the art despite my past tribal armband indiscretions. It seems Bill has really taken to heart the notion that a tattoo is an artistic collaboration between the artist and that person grimacing in pain. Bill’s ability to listen to my suggestions, develop them into something that would work well with the incredibly difficult medium that is the human body, and bring the freaking big, vague concept to life was astounding.
